About this time every year, the Psychopathic Records community starts buzzing with anticipation about the forthcoming Gathering of the Juggalos horror rap music festival. Without fail, it's happening again. Sure, there's reasons why this year's Gathering of the Juggalos festival is special, but we'll get to those later.
For now, just remember that the Gathering of the Juggalos has reached a saturation point in our culture that it can now be grouped in with the other big music fests. 13 years strong, and Psychopathic Records organizers couldn't be happier about where its growth in that time period.
It has always been and will always be the music that brings people out to big music fests. Headliners at big music fests like Coachella and Bonnaroo include some of the most famous artists in the entire world. The same can be said for Gathering of the Juggalos if you reduce the size of the world down to the horror rap world. Because Gathering of the Juggalos is curated by Psychopathic Records, it should come as no surprise that their best and brightest are what makes up the majority of the lineup.
Who to expect this year? So far, the following acts have been announced: Insane Clown Posse, Twiztid, Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Anybody Killa, Boondox, Cold 187 AKA Big Hutch (new to Psychopathic Records), DJ Clay, Mike E. Clark, Dark Lotus, and Psychopathic Rydas. Not too shabby eh?
But even though musicians might be what brings people out to the Gathering of the Juggalos and other big music fests ever year, it is not what sets them apart. In fact, aside from the one-of-a-kind lineup found at Gathering of the Juggalos, many other big music fests have similar lineups with detracts from their allure.
No, what makes big music fests like Psychopathic Records' Gathering of the Juggalos unique is the alternative activities they have to offer. And Gathering of the Juggalos has plenty, thanks to the creativity of festival planners Psychopathic Records.
This year, many of the same Gathering of the Juggalos sideshows you've become accustomed to over the years will be back in action. These include the Faygo Wet T-Shirt contest, the Miss Juggalette contest, JCW Try-Outs, the Juggalette lingerie contest, the Juggalo tattoo contest and the Neden Game. They may announce more before the event.
The same can be said for the activities at this big music fest. Staples like Psychopathic records artist seminars and Psychopathic Records radio live broadcase will be back in action, but lesser known events like Psychopathic Karaoke and Midway Games (traditional carnie games) will be back in the forefront this year as well. How many other big music fests can say they too bring all of these activities to the table?
As for the special things that make this year's Gathering of the Juggalos big music fest unique, that is chiefly Insane Clown Posse's Mighty Death Pop! release. The group's first horror rap release in three years (via Psychopathic Records), they chose a great place to unveil it, surrounded by the Juggalo family. I'd bet they have plenty of Mighty Death Pop! shenanigans planned for the big music fest, but you'll only be a part of them if you're there!
