5 Simple Steps to Make a Word Find Puzzle

To be able to make a word find puzzle, start by selecting a theme, developing your words, developing the grid, developing your answer key, and finishing the grid and puzzle.

A word find puzzle is a highly entertaining game which can keep people busy. This game is usually used in situations wherein people have nothing to do but wait for moment to pass by, such as waiting for their turn in the doctor's office or waiting for the train to arrive. The puzzle also makes a great, entertaining game and activity for events or certain occasions. While you can find many this game in bookstores, you can also create your own word find puzzle.

Decide on a theme

Decide on a theme you want for your word find puzzle. In case your puzzle is for your children for a certain event, you can match the game with the occasion. For instance, you can have an Easter concept; or you can base your concept on a destination you are going to, if you are going to use the puzzle during a trip. It can also be used for adult events, such as a baby shower or a bachelor or bachelorette celebration. Furthermore, themes make word-finding easier and more exciting.

Construct your words

After you have made a theme, you can now begin creating words that match your theme on a clean piece of paper. For instance, you can jot down bunnies, chocolates, eggs, and candies for an Easter concept.

Make the grid

Now, create the grid where you will place all the words you have made. Get a clean sheet of paper, pencil, and ruler. Then, draw 16 vertical lines utilizing a ruler to make the lines straight and to make sure that they are equally spaced from each other. After which, draw another 16 lines across the vertical lines and in even spaces from each other, as well. Now, you have a grid which has fifteen squares across and fifteen squares going below. This grid size is best particularly for starters, and you can always raise the sizes of your next grids accordingly. Make sure that the sizes of the squares are just correct, so the sizes of the letters that'll be put inside them will also appear right for the gamers. As an alternative to developing the grid manually, you may also utilize a graphing paper, which is already filled with several squares. You can find this type of paper in shops that sell school and office supplies.

Create your answer key

Each of the squares in the grid is intended to be filled with a letter. Put the words that you have created to the grid. Spread them in various parts of the grid, and arrange them in such a way that words can be read horizontally, vertically and diagonally. Then, after you have put the words in the grid, make a photocopy of it. This photocopy will be your Letter Word Finder or answer key, which you will utilize as a reference for that particular word puzzle. You may also utilize a scanner and print, or save, the answer key in your computer.

Complete the grid and puzzle

After you have created the answer key, finish the grid by filling all the empty squares with random letters. When done, check the word puzzle carefully for any improper or bad words, which might have been developed after the random placement of letters. If there are any, delete and replace letters with a new one.

Make sure that you create puzzle games that are appropriate for the player's age.
