Surefire Ways To Help You Accomplish Office Efficiency



Nearly every office, be it commercial or home-based, may have areas of inefficiency that can be improved upon. Not talking sales figures or profit margins or budgets, but inefficient waste and resource management. For instance, look at some common aspects and consider how consumption can be reduced and how to make better use of resources.

For the sake of security, it's necessary to shred paper work and receipts although there are instances when this can be avoided. You have a choice of whether you would recycle this shredded paper or contribute it in layers to a compost or worm bin. You can also donate it to pet stores or animal shelters where it's used at the bottom of the cages. This will ease workloads on staff, keep operational costs down, and the animals are more comfortable in their cages. Along with the bedding, the animal waste is easily composted.

It's now possible to save paper on a daily basis thanks to technology because now, we can send emails. Worth mentioning, is the time saved as compared to communicating via the postal system. If possible, don't use a cover sheet when sending a fax. Set the photocopy machine to automatically print pages on both sides of the paper in order to be efficient. Use the reverse side of any suitable scrap paper when you're making copies with the printer or photocopier. Keep a box of this paper handy for visiting children to color and draw upon. You can use the blank side or scrap papers for reminder notes, shopping lists, game scoring, or to do lists.

In office printers, you may often use sheets of adhesive labels. In the edges, bottom, and top of each used sheet, there is a remaining ¼" unused material. You can trim these to convenient lengths and store in a small jar. When labeling items destined for the freezer, bulk food, jam jars, or shop and craft supplies, these labels will come in handy.

Turn off scanners, external drives, and other computer equipment when they are not in use and only turn them on for the duration that they are needed. Stand-by power (lights or clock displays) can be eliminated by either using a power bar or by manually unplugging the equipment. When not in use, like during lunch, meetings, or coffee, sleep the computer during the day and turn off all equipment before leaving at the end of the day.

These are some simple suggestions, yet they will save time, money, and resources, which is in the best interest of any office.
